10th ANNUAL AMARILLO OPEN FENCING TOURNAMENT A GREAT SUCCESS!

Amarillo College Fencing Association would like to thank everyone who made the 10th Annual Amarillo Open Fencing Tournament the most successful tournament in the history of Amarillo College.  The tournament could not have been the success it was without the help of many people, including, but not limited to:

REGISTRATION:  Krista Martin, Sharee Haney, Joanna Conway, Cynthia Cunningham, Linda Chenowith, Gayle Slaughter

TOURNAMENT OPERATIONS:  Bary Nusz, Aimee Nusz, Cynthia Cunningham, Chuck Slaughter

REFEREES:  Aaron Clements (Head Ref), Andrew Lambdin-Abraham, David Sierra, Justin Meehan, Jay Young, Cynthia Savino, Sue Borgos, Chuck Slaughter, Ben Simpson, Jared Slaughter, Katherine Fulghum, Juleah Nusz, Billy Trabaudo, Daniel Rios, and Casey Blough.

ARMORERS:  Will Willis, Skeeter Wilkinson

FUND RAISING:  Joanna Conway, Kirk Coury

CONCESSION STAND:  Joanna Conway, Barbara Cockerham, Ande Parlow, Krista Martin

LUNCHES:  Gayle Slaughter

AMARILLO COLLEGE LIAISONS:  Robert Bauman, Tony Tackitt

SWORDMASTERS:  Our exclusive vendor for the tournament provided equipment repairs and sold fencing equipment.  ACFA also rented 7 fencing strips and scoreboxes from them to bring our total number of grounded strips up to 11 strips.

SET-UP & TEAR DOWN:  There are too many to name here individually but ACFA would like to thank all the parents, fencers and family members who helped set up and tear down the equipment.

AWARDS:  Joanna Conway, Richard Howard, and a special thanks to Ande Parlow for painting four wonderful works of art that were presented to the Gold Medalists in the Junior and Women's events.

TRANSPORTATION:  Cheryl Carroll for picking up referees at the airport and transporting them around Amarillo to and from the hotel and the tournament.

THE FENCERS:  From Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas, Oklahoma and elsewhere - "Thanks for coming!"

FINALLY, ACFA would like to thank Head Coach Richard Howard for his dedication to the fencing program.  ACFA and this tournament would not even exist without the vision that Coach Howard has brought to the fencing program at Amarillo College.

THANK YOU ACFA FOR A GREAT TOURNAMENT!

NEXT YEAR'S TOURNAMENT

The 11th Annual Amarillo Open Fencing Tournament is now in the planning stages.  We anticipate the date of the tournament to be in October of 2010 at the Carter Fitness Center on the Washington Street campus of Amarillo College in Amarillo, Texas.

The Tournament Committee will be considering changes to the tournament that would bring it more in line with the format of Regional Open Circuit Tournaments.  This would require separate Men's and Women's events for Senior Foil, Epee and Sabre.  The other events would likely remain substantially the same as the 2009 tournament.  If you would like to express your opinion on this matter, please email Chuck Slaughter at chuck@acfencers.com.
